The inspiration for Nano Gas™ Environmental came when our founder, Len Bland, discovered something that astounded him. Len was running Concept Equity Group, where he prepared entrepreneurs for investment while providing strategic and financial advisory services. He had seen thousands of inventions and entrepreneurs. However, when he saw the ability to create nanobubbles, he realized it was a world-changing technology that he had to be part of.
Len quickly recruited key personnel, including Jeff Hardin and Scott Fiedler. When Jeff and Scott learned about the Nano Gas™ nanobubbles, they were just as amazed as Len had been. They were particularly impressed with the mechanical process for making nanobubbles, which required no membranes. It produced huge concentrations of nanobubbles in solution making it easy to scale for use with large water volumes.
The group drew up a three page list of large markets they could impact. Then they created Nano Gas™ Technologies and acquired the technology. Thus, our company was born.
Impacting the Oil Industry
We quickly began examining the markets to focus on. Our initial idea was to improve municipal wastewater treatment, which looked attractive because the U.S. Navy had used the developmental technology to clean bilgewater in a study. We also knew that the technology had been used to clean oil from the Deep-Water Horizon oil spill. Soon we realized that cleaning oil industry wastewater by separating oil and water was a great fit.
And so, Nano Gas™ Technologies began working in the oil industry. We conducted a pilot at a reclamation plant and proved the technology could do the following:
- Use multiple gases to recover virtually all the oil
- Drop suspended solids and grit from the water
- Neutralize dangerous chemicals in the water like hydrogen sulfide and iron sulfide
- Eliminate the need for chemicals
Soon we broke new ground in our understanding of how and why Nano Gas™ nanobubbles worked.
Discovering More Incredible Capabilities
The reclamation plant pilot taught us that we could economically recover oil and clean the water. In addition, we saw how Nitro Nano™ bubbles decreased the weight of heavy oils, enabling them to rise for skimming and sale. That gave us the idea that we could send the Nitro Nano™ bubbles into an oil well to recover more oil. When we tested that, it doubled the production of the oil well, just as we expected it would.
In the meantime, we brought on Al Darzins, Ph.D. as a research and innovation expert. Al and Nano Gas™ Technologies secured a grant with the Department of Energy and Arizona State University to sequester carbon dioxide in a solution and determine the impact on growing algae for biofuel.
Adjusting to Changing Circumstances
We soon realized that running an operating company in the oil industry contained risks that could jeopardize our intellectual property. So, we decided to use Nano Gas™ Technologies as the company holding the intellectual property while we created NGT Energy, Inc. as the operating company (doing business as Nano Gas™ Environmental).
Just as we were gaining success in the oil industry, a slowdown loomed, and the COVID-19 pandemic began. We realized that nothing would happen until oil prices recovered, so we took the opportunity to explore and test our nanobubbles in some of the other promising markets.
Nano Gas™ Environmental proved that Nano Gas™ nanobubbles grow cannabis faster naturally. We also showed that nanobubbles can help largemouth bass fingerlings by improving their survivability and increasing their weight. Finally, Nano Gas™ Environmental established a relationship with a municipal wastewater service company, addressing small municipalities.
Looking Toward the Future
Now, the oil industry has recovered, and Nano Gas™ Environmental has huge opportunities! We have had commercial success in using Nano Gas™ nanobubbles in oil wells to produce more oil with no chemicals, recycle oil industry wastewater and clean up the algae and sludge from sewage treatment ponds.
